Live and study in Saint-Etienne
City of seven hills articulated around its main street, Saint-Etienne owns the advantages of an active urban centre, within a priviliged environment. The gorges of the Loire, nearby, and the Regional Natural Park of the Pilat offers beautiful escapades in the heart of the countryside. In "Sainté" and its suburbs, there is the possibility to practice a large range of sportive activities: walk, climbing, moutain bike, canoeing, martial arts, archery, squash, tennis, parachuting, golf...
Museums and cultural manifestations
Among the different museums the city counts, the Museum of Modern Art of Saint-Etienne Metropole, with its more than 15,000 artworks and a design collection of 900 items, is a high place for contemporaneous arts. As for the Museum of Art and Industry, it shelters a remarquable collection proving the know-how in the fields of weapons, ribbons and cycles. Into the metropolis, the Le Crobusier site, located in Firminy, constitutes a unique architectural site in Europe. In addition to those institutions, that the Cité du design has joined in October of 2009, Saint-Etienne welcomes two significant manifestations: the International Design Biennial, which next edition will take place in 2010, and the Fête du livre, and many festivals of every sorts: the Massenet Festival, the Piano Passion Festival, the Paroles et musique Festival, the Arts Burlesques Festival, the 7 collines Festival, which attract thousands of visitors.
Auditoriums
The National Drama Center, created in 1947 by Jean Dasté and composed of a drama school of art, the Comédie of Saint-Étienne is a significant creation and broadcast place for live performing shows. The Opera-Theater proposes a scheduling based on lyrics arts and dance. In 2008, two new auditoriums enriched the offer for shows in Saint-Etienne: the Fil, dedicated to actual music and a blazing Zenith of 7 000 seats, designed by the famous architect Norman Foster. The cultural patrimony of Saint-Etienne is also rich of a multimedia library, a cinematheque, two cinemas of art house, the France and the Méliès, and of a planetarium (the Astronef).
Students’ representatives
Each year, students elect 2 representatives for the 1st year and for each department (art & design). They have to report all necessary information to the coordinators to insure a better working at the school. They participate to the educational meeting. Elections for the academic year 2009-2010 took place on the 27 of October 2009.
