The departmens
The ESADSE has the particularity to gather 2 departments structuring the field of the higher artistic teaching in France: Art and Design. The introduction to the optional fields is realised during the second semester, at the end of which the student has to orient himself towards one of the three following choices.
Art
This department is the core activity, combining the fields of visual art expression, the theoretical issues of human sciences, and the particular problematic of each individual. In addition to the learning process for artistic tools and media (photography, drawing, painting, video, volume, sound, installation and performance, and new technologies), The ESADSE proposes a unique training framework, whereby the student’s project is permanently subjected to cross-cutting critiques in order to confirm the pertinence of the orientations and aesthetic choices that have inspired it. The development of the project takes place within an individual work space, and is enriched by an extensive programme of external advisors, travelling, attending exhibitions, and a network of partnerships, all of which constitute significant pedagogical support.
Design
The global project which characterises the teaching of design at the ESADSE combines the dual notions of behavioural comportment and know-how. The course seeks to place the sociological, anthropological and economic dimensions of design development, in the context of the relationship between man and his environment. The course offers possibilities of study in all the various fields of design application: furniture, product design, urban planning, stage design, service design… The development of concrete projects linked to the different fields of application enable the student to develop the capacity to look at questions of creation in innovation beyond the influence of the superfluous aspects of ephemeral trends. This construction process of rational thought combining personal convictions with technical know-how is one of the major themes of design teaching in our establishment.
